New Local Certificate Program in Web Design
for Education

The Media Arts Department at Cerro Coso Community College announced
today that they will be offering a local certificate program in
Web Design
for Education.
This certificate program has been created to equip Sierra Sands
Unified School District faculty and staff to publish curriculum
and instructional media on the internet. This program which includes
existing courses that are part of the Cerro Coso's state-approved
Web Design Associate Degree program, consists of 4 courses: Digital
Media Design, Digital Imaging, Accessibility and Usability, and
Web Animation. Each of the classes will be offered over a semester
in 3 five-week sections to accommodate the busy schedules of District
employees.
The first course, Digital Media Design, is being offered in this
current Spring 2003 semester. The first section is now open for
enrollment. The class will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m., beginning January 28, 2003 at Burroughs
High School, Room C14. In addition to learning foundational principles
of page layout and design, students will learn in this first course
to use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, which has emerged as the leader
in web development software.
Ms. Laurie St. Gean, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and
Instruction of Sierra Sands Unified School District, expressed
her enthusiasm about the program, "Sierra Sands is extremely
excited about working with Cerro Coso college in offering staff
development opportunities for our staff. Technology is one of
the district's top priorities, and we are exploring as many options
as possible for achieving the goals set forth in the district's
technology plan. Staff members have expressed their excitement
about the certificate program in Web Design for Education, and
we hope this is just the beginning in this partnership with Cerro
Coso Community College."
Dr. Sharon Dyer, President of Cerro Coso Community College is
also pleased about the program. "I am very excited about
the opportunity to expand our collaborative partnerships with
Sierra Sands Unified School District. This program is exciting
and addresses a great need in this community," she said.
