DMA C109 - Desktop Publishing with InDesign
Course Description
This course provides students with a strong foundation in graphic design theory with specific emphasis on typography and the design of multi-page documents, such as newsletters, brochures, magazine pages, calendars, and books. Students develop an awareness of various graphic design styles and genres. Students also develop proficiency through the intermediate level in the use of the desktop publishing software, Adobe InDesign. No prior knowledge of the software is required.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Create aesthetic graphic designs that employ a grid system, gestalt principles, typographic principles, color theory, and usability.
- Identify visual elements that constitute specific aesthetic styles or genre, and create an original graphic design in a particular style.
- Apply publishing standards.

You are required to obtain your software and textbook(s) prior to the start of the semester.

- Adobe InDesign CS5
(Note that the software does not come with the textbooks. You need a fully licensed application—a trial version will not suffice.)
