DMA C213 - Web Development with PHP and MySQL

Course Description

This course provides students with the skills to create dynamic web pages with PHP and MySQL. Practical applications of PHP include Web form data processing, work with MySQL databases, and read and write text files.

Student Learning Outcomes

• Explain what a programming language is and describe the basic syntax of PHP.
• Create dynamic web content using programming concepts such as variables, expressions, operators, functions, events, arrays, decision statements, repetition statements, and databases. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric. .
• Write programs that will add, edit and delete records from a MySQL database.
• Write programs that process form input data to a text file, database, or screen display.
• Maintain session state.

Course Prerequisite

• DMA C211: Web Scripting with Javascript (offered Fall semesters)

You are required to obtain your software and textbook(s) prior to the start of the semester.

Software

• Plain text editor, such as Notepad, HTML Kit, BBEdit.
• FTP program (such as WinSCP (free!), Smart FTP (also free!), WS-FTP, CuteFTP, FTP Explorer, Bulletproof FTP, Fetch for the Mac.
